Surprise es un Piscis

Few cities carry their founding mythology in their name as literally as this Maricopa County boomtown. Founded in 1938 by Flora Mae Statler, the initial one-square-mile plot of land was born from low expectations. Statler famously remarked she would be 'surprised if the town ever amounted to much'. For decades, the universe seemed to agree. It was a dusty agricultural stop, a quiet grid of alfalfa and cotton fields baking under the Arizona sun, largely ignored by the expanding metroplex to the southeast.

However, the modern era proved Statler wrong. The explosion of Surprise from a sleepy retirement enclave to a massive suburban heavyweight is one of the most dramatic demographic shifts in recent American history. It is a city defined by suddenness. One moment it was empty desert; the next, it was a sprawling network of master-planned communities, the spring training home of the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals, and a hub for young families fleeing the cost of the inner city.

Because it is so young in its current form, Surprise lacks the ancient ghosts of Tucson or the established grit of Phoenix. Its culture is fabricated but functional-Friday nights at the minimalist city center, meticulously organized recreational leagues, and the grand, manicured geometry of the Sun City Grand. It is a city writing its history in real-time, fueled by the relentless engine of suburban expansion.
